    Inkspots Guild Meeting

    Metal Point Sketching

    Versals

    Thursday, April 16, 2026

    6:30pm - 8:30pm

    CWI:  Boise Campus

1360 S. Eagle Flight Way, Boise, ID 83709

    Room:  APIN 1302

TOPIC: Versal forms drawn using copper point

We're going back into writing history to explore an alternative mark making method: metal point. Used heavily during the Renaissance by some of the great artists of the time *cough* Leo *cough*, a metal stylus was used to sketch fine details onto prepared surfaces.

In our meeting we will be using copper stylus's, known as copper point,  to draw constructed letterforms known as versals.

For those able to attend in-person, we'll have supplies to try this out during our meeting, but those attending digitally will still get to go through the versals structures, with the more modern graphite point or other tool of their choosing at home.

    SUPPLY LIST:

Since metal point requires a slightly abrasive surface, we'll be preparing those in advance but bring the tools you already enjoy working with—nothing fancy required. A basic kit is perfect, we will have a prompt at the start of meetings that members can work on through announcements and sharing is always welcome.

If you have them, consider bringing:

    • Practice paper
    • A pencil and eraser
